the subtle art of showing up
11 signs you're more in love with the idea than the process (and why that's keeping you stuck!)
Hiiiiii. Straight to the chase this week.
1. You have 47 Pinterest boards but haven't started a single project
Your "Dream Life" board has 2,000 pins. Your actual life has zero changes. You know every aesthetic, every quote, every mood board, but you've never picked up the paintbrush, opened the laptop, or taken the first step. The fantasy feels safer than the reality.
2. You keep waiting for Monday to start your life
Monday motivation. New month, new me. Next year will be different. Wake up its the first of the month. You've been saying this for three years. The truth? There's no magical Monday that makes hard things easy. There's only today, and today feels too ordinary to matter.
3. You follow 200 fitness influencers but haven't moved your body this week
You can quote every wellness guru, know every morning routine, have watched every "What I Eat in a Day" video. But you never go outside ma’am! You love the idea of being healthy, not the actual work of getting there.
4. You research your dream life more than you live it
You've read every article about your ideal career, ideal relationship, ideal morning routine. You know the theory better than the people actually living it. But research without action is just procrastination with a PhD girl.
5. You're more excited about telling people your plans than actually doing them
The announcement gets you high. The likes, the comments, the "you go girl!" responses. But when it's time to show up alone, in the quiet, with no audience that's when the excitement dies. You're addicted to the reaction and validation, not the work.
6. You're waiting for inspiration to strike instead of creating discipline
"I'll start when I feel motivated." "I need to be in the right headspace." "I'm waiting for a sign." Meanwhile, the people living your dream life aren't waiting for feelings, they're showing up regardless of how they feel.
8. You collect courses, books, and programs but never finish them
This one is huge. Your phone is full of half-watched masterclasses. Your bookshelf is full of everything in the self help section. You love the feeling of buying the solution, but you hate the work of implementing it. You're addicted to the purchase, not the process.
9. You make excuses about why you can't start yet
"I don't have time." (But you spent two hours on TikTok.) "I don't have money." (But you haven't tried the free options.) "I don't know how." (But you haven't googled it.) Your excuses are more creative than your solutions girlie pop dubop.
10. You're more comfortable talking about your dreams than working toward them
In conversations, you're the one with all the big plans. You paint beautiful pictures of your future self. But when people ask about your progress, you change the subject. Your dreams have become your identity, not your work.
The process IS the point.
You think you want to be a writer, but what you really want is to say you’re a writer. You think you want to be fit, but what you really want is to reap the benefits of being fit.
You have to fall in love with the daily act of showing up. The messy first drafts. The workouts you don’t want to do. The quiet mornings with God. The uncomfortable conversations. The budget spreadsheets. The saying no to plans so you can say yes to who you committed to being.
The people living your dream life aren't special. They just love the process more than they love what it looks like.
Stop being the DJ who never plays music. Stop planning the party that never happens. Stop researching the life you never live.
Because the only way to become is to begin.
What's one process you've been avoiding because you only love the idea of the outcome? Tell us in the comments, we're all figuring this out together!!
I prosper in everything I put my hand to. I have prosperity in all areas of my life–spiritually, financially, mentally, and socially.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
As a man thinks in his heart, so is he; therefore, all of my thoughts are positive. I do not allow Satan to use my spirit as a garbage dump by meditating on negative things that he offers me.
Proverbs 23:7 (NIV)
I am not passive about anything, but I deal with all things in my life immediately.
Proverbs 27:23 (NIV); Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)

Here's my thesis, and it might sound controversial: It doesn't matter what you look like. It only matters what you think about what you look like.
