You lack discipline because you don't respect the goal it's attached to. You're not seeing what you want as a must-have. You're not seeing it as "I need to achieve this. This has to be achieved."
You're more so in the camp of "oh, it would be nice to achieve this."
It would be nice to get a YouTube plaque
It would be nice to get brand deals
It would be nice to get into this law program
It would be nice to pass this exam
Not "I need a good grade on this exam." Like, I NEED to have a good grade. You're saying "it would be nice to pass" so your discipline is attached to "it would be nice" - which is already a lukewarm statement to begin with.
Let's Talk About Lukewarm
We know what the Bible says about lukewarm. Revelations 3:15: "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other." Revelations says "So because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth."
The Power of Diligence
Here's another one: God is a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him.
Let's look at the depth of "diligent":
Having or showing care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties
Careful and hardworking
To value highly
To take delight in
Diligent comes from the Latin which means "to value highly, to take delight in." He's a rewarder of them that value highly, that search for Him.
Think About This
If that's how God sees someone He's going to reward, don't you think in the system of the world that He created, you only get the reward if you diligently seek the rewards?
You don't get something for nothing. You have to:
Give yourself to this thing
Give yourself to the person
Give yourself to the desire that God placed in your heart
For you to see it manifest. For you to see it come to life.
The Truth
Otherwise, the reward might not come, and then you'll get discouraged and think:
"I'm not disciplined enough"
"I'm not motivated enough"
"I'm not worthy enough"
When in truth? You just don't want it bad enough.
You haven't decided within yourself. And "a house divided against itself cannot stand." You haven't decided within yourself that you need to have these things, that you need to experience these realities, that you need to have these experiences in Christ. In your life. Because everything we do is in Christ.
You haven't come to that point. And when you do come to that point? That's when you'll start to see your life change.
Let's pray: God, give me the diligence I need to manifest Your glory as You desire this season in my life.
Remember: It's not about being "disciplined enough." It's about wanting what God has for you enough to pursue it diligently.
