you will always go where you’re thinking
We've all been thereeeee you get excited about making changes in your life, whether it's your health, finances, or breaking habits that have been holding you back. You start strong, feeling motivated and ready to finally turn things around.
Then, somehow, you find yourself right back where you started.
The way you see yourself in your heart will always override what you're trying to do on the outside. You have the power to change that inner image, and when you do, everything else begins to shift.
1. Ground Your Inner Image in Something Stronger Than Willpower
Positive thinking has its place, but it's not powerful enough to create the kind of lasting change you're looking for.
You need a foundation that's stronger than your own determination or circumstances.
When you build your inner image on God's Word rather than your feelings or current situation, you're tapping into something eternal and unchanging. His promises about who you are carry divine power, not just good intentions and “positivity”.
Try this: Find three scriptures that speak to the area where you want to see change. Instead of relying on self-generated affirmations, let God's words about you become the truth you meditate on daily (this is how I come up with the weekly affirmations btw)
2. Let the Right Words Paint New Pictures in Your Mind
Words don't just communicate, they create images in our minds. When you hear certain words, you immediately see pictures, not just letters. This is why what you consistently listen to and speak matters so much.
Your current inner image was shaped by years of words:
things people said about you
things you've said about yourself
thoughts you've entertained. The beautiful news is that you can begin painting new pictures by choosing different words.
Try this: Pay attention to how you talk about yourself, especially in areas where you want to see growth.
Replace limiting language with words that align with who you're becoming.
3. Focus on Eternal Truth, Not Temporary Circumstances
This might be the hardest part, but it's also where breakthrough happens. Your circumstances, what you see in the mirror, your bank account, your relationships, these are all temporary. But God's Word about you is eternal.
Learning to walk by faith instead of by sight means you choose to believe what God says about your situation, even when everything around you looks different. You're not denying reality, you're choosing to focus on a higher reality.
Try this: When you're tempted to let your circumstances define you, take a moment to declare what God says about your situation instead.
4. Expect Resistance When You Start Growing
When you begin building a healthy inner image based on God's Word, you'll likely face more resistance, not less. This isn't a sign that you're doing something wrong, it's actually confirmation that you're moving in the right direction.
Distractions, discouragement, and obstacles are part of the process. The enemy knows that once God's truth really takes root in your heart, positive change becomes inevitable.
Try this: When you face setbacks or discouragement, remind yourself that resistance often signals progress. Don't let temporary pressure steal the seeds of truth that have been planted in your heart.
5. Speak Your New Reality into Existence
Your words carry more power than you might realize. Just as God spoke the world into existence, your words have creative force. When you speak God's truth about yourself and your situation with genuine faith, you're actively participating in your own transformation.
Try this: Make it a daily practice to speak God's truth over your life out loud. Don't just think positive thoughts, actually voice what He says about you and your future.
When your heart truly believes what God says about you, your external world begins to align with that internal truth.
The person you're becoming isn't just a distant dream, she's available to you right now through the power of God's Word working in your heart. Every time you choose to believe and speak what He says about you instead of what your circumstances suggest, you're building a new inner image.
Change doesn't have to be temporary anymore. When your heart truly believes what God says about you, your external world begins to align with that internal truth. It's not about perfection; it's about progress and staying connected to the One who created you for more.
You have everything you need to step into the fullness of who God designed you to be. Your inner image is being transformed day by day, and as it changes, so does everything else.
Journal prompt: What's one area of your life where you've been seeing yourself through the lens of past failures or current limitations? How might God see that same area? What would change if you began building your inner image on His perspective instead?
The journey to becoming who you're meant to be starts with changing how you see yourself from the inside out. And that transformation is available to you today.
