I Beg You to Invest in Yourself
a lesson from private equity
Train your eyes to not see impossibility
Think about it. There is no reason to be afraid of something right now, in the present. The only time fear enters is when you remember a time it manifested in the past. Fear is a spirit its the absence of love, absence of power, and absence of a sound mind.
The thing is, you can only open the door to fear from behind you, by going back to the context it previously existed in. If you never open that door, fear can’t come in.
At all. It’s really wonderful, actually. Anytime you’re tempted to be fearful, or consumed by it, remember that it only exists in the context of the past.
Love is hereeee in the present.

What You Missed on From Love Itself TV
I saw this video recently, a woman who went from sex work to private equity, talking about how the men in both industries run the same playbook. Assess the asset, figure out how much you can take, load the debt onto someone else. It’s a sharp video. But the thing I walked away with wasn’t about men being terrible.
The takeaway, for me, is that I beg you to invest in yourself.
In the same way that someone in private equity can look at a business and see an opportunity, can run the numbers, can see the value, can see what it could become, that’s the same way you need to look at yourself and look at your life. Not as a project to be fixed. Not as an item to be discounted. You should look at yourself and see an opportunity to invest in and generate a return from.
You have your health. You have your wealth. You have your relationships. If I were to ask you right now, what area of your life would be the easiest to optimize first, what would your answer be? And then from there, what about it can you actually optimize? What steps can you take to start? How will your life improve?
Optimizing your health gives you more energy, more vitality, and it opens the door for you to help other people do the same.
Optimizing your wealth gives you more freedom of time, time to do the things you actually love and to help people. Period. To do the will of God, because resources free you up. You don’t have to spend all of your time working to build someone else’s dream or someone else’s opportunity. You can build your own. Whether that’s a company, an app, whatever, right now, we are at an unprecedented time in history. You can build anything. The barrier to entry from idea to execution is the lowest it’s ever been. With the tools and resources that are available right now, you don’t need what you used to need. And you can still ship your ideas. That’s amazing to me. What an opportunity we’re in.
And the level of connection you can nurture between you and a complete stranger right now. I can be best friends with someone in Singapore. We can feel like we’re doing all the same things and going all the same places and I’ll never see her. That’s the world we’re living in.
If it’s in the area of your relationships, becoming incredibly well spoken, an excellent communicator, more emotionally intelligent, these are things that will serve you in your own relationships, and they’ll help you help other people in theirs. And this is probably one of the most important things I can say: your relationship with God. Because the relationship you have with God is most likely the relationship you have with everybody else. How you treat that relationship is how you treat every other relationship.
I beg you to invest in yourself. Invest in hobbies. Invest in the relationship with yourself. You need a hobby that isn’t productive. You need a hobby that isn’t work. You need a hobby that you love. And if your hobby is work — if you’re working on something you’re super passionate about, go for it. But look into horseback riding. Look into being a florist. Look into playing board games, needlepoint, some kind of physical activity like taekwondo one that requires actual skill. Not just toning your body, but skill. Like dance.
Live, girl. Live. You’re allowed to. I’m giving you the permission. If up until this point you haven’t given yourself the permission to live — freaking live. You’re allowed. If you’re looking for permission, there you go. Permission granted.
